High-level seminar on Pascal Lamy’s archives

Description

On Monday 13 March, Europe Jacques Delors, in the person of its Vice-President, Pascal Lamy, and its Director General, Geneviève Pons, took part in a high-level seminar on the Pascal Lamy’s archives, co-organised by the Jacques Delors Institute and the Historical Archives of the European Union. The main theme of the seminar was to shed light on the Pascal Lamy Archives, made possible by stimulating exchanges between witnesses and academics specialised in the period. After an introduction by Arancha González (Dean of PSIA) and Dieter Schlenker (Director of the Historical Atchives of the EU), Pascal Lamy spoke about the importance he attaches to opening his own archives to researchers.

Genevieve Pons, former environment advisor in the Delors cabinet, gave some anecdotes about the Delors - Lamy duo during the panel on Pascal Lamy's 10 years as Head of Cabinet of Jacques Delors (1984 - 1994). During this panel, Christine Verger (Vice-President of the Jacques Delors Institute) recalled, among other appellations of Pascal Lamy during this period, that of "Monk - Soldier" illustrating his determined commitment to his functions. Finally, Jean Pierre Jouyet evoked the management of Jacques Delors' cabinet by Pascal Lamy: concision and efficiency.

A second panel then addressed Pascal Lamy's mandate as European Commissioner for Trade (1999 - 2004) in which Arancha González and Denis Redonnet (Deputy DG at the Commission) intervened. In conclusion, Sébastien Maillard (Director of the Jacques Delors Institute in Paris) underlined the importance of the partnership between the Jacques Delors Institute and the Historical Archives of the European Union in the framework of which this Seminar was organised.
