Time for a new sustainability agenda for EU trade policy?

The aim of this panel debate is to discuss how to put sustainability at the heart of the EU’s trade policy. The communication on the EU trade policy review set out by the European Commission in February 2021 stated that "combating climate change and environmental degradation is in the EU’s top priority", highlighting the supporting role that trade policy will play to contribute to these goals. Since then, legislative work around trade and sustainability matters has been intense. 2022 will be a decisive year to make EU trade more sustainable, but reaching this goal requires coordinated efforts from all sides: the public sector, the private sector, the civil society, and changes in consumer habits.

This webinar is an opportunity to hear the perspectives of key stakeholders on the sustainability transition of EU trade. EU decision-makers, civil society and the business sector will be around the same table to exchange about the barriers they face in their work to green trade but also to explain the economic opportunities that are offered by the sustainable transition.
