The results of a study carried out by IFOP for the French Banking Federation (FBF) and the Association des Sociétés Financières (ASF) are rather encouraging: of almost 5,600 homeowners, 49% have carried out work to make their home more energy-efficient, and 32% say they intend to do so.

French banking survey demonstrates that households are well on the way to making their homes more energy-efficient, thanks in particular to public subsidies

The results of a study carried out by IFOP for the French Banking Federation (FBF) and the Association des Sociétés Financières (ASF) are rather encouraging: of almost 5,600 homeowners, 49% have carried out work to make their home more energy-efficient, and 32% say they intend to do so.

Among the findings of the study, we can highlight the important role played by public grants: almost half of homeowners would not have carried out the work without grants, and 39% of themhad to take out a bankloan.

On average, homeowners financed almost 58% of the work from their savings, borrowed 28% and received 16% in public grants. The average cost of energy renovation work is over €18,500.

The availability of craftsmen is a second obstacle to carrying out the work, according to the homeowners surveyed.

National banking associations in the European Union - or their European federation - need to carry out similar studies to gain a better understanding of what's happening on the ground, and thus draw conclusions for the players involved, including public authorities.

A similar study on energy transition financing for SMEs would also be very useful, as Europe Jacques Delors and the relevant professional associations (SMEs, banks, chartered accountants) have long been calling for.
