A Sustainable and Just Transition to a Zero-Carbon Economy | EU - China Cooperation and Innovation in Maritime Transport
Maritime transport is a cornerstone of EU–China trade relations and a strategically important sector for achieving shared climate objectives. This conference will bring together European and Chinese stakeholders to exchange experiences, showcase joint initiatives, and identify concrete pathways towards zero-emission shipping.
The event will open with keynote addresses by Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition, and H.E. Ambassador Cai Run of the Mission of China to the European Union.
The conference will be moderated by Geneviève Pons, President and Director General of Europe Jacques Delors, and Pascal Lamy, Coordinator of the Jacques Delors Institutes in Paris, Berlin and Brussels.
Europe Jacques Delors’ work on maritime transport is supported by Oceans 5.
Discussions will be structured around three panels:
1. Greening the fleet: pathways to zero-emission vessels. This panel will examine technological innovations in alternative fuels, digitalisation and energy efficiency, and assess their readiness for deployment at scale.
2. Greening the shore: ports, corridors and the infrastructure transition. This panel will explore the role of ports and maritime corridors as strategic enablers of the green transition, drawing on existing EU-China cooperation initiatives and best practices.
3.Setting the conditions: regulation, finance and economic security. This panel will address the regulatory, financial and economic security frameworks shaping the pace and depth of bilateral cooperation.
